MISSION:

To conserve Columbia's natural and historical resources. The Commission maintains an inventory of the town's resources, and educates and makes recommendations with regard to the wise use of those resources.

The Columbia Conservation Commission is made up of volunteers appointed by the Board of Selectmen for 4 year terms.

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Mapping

The Commission is constantly updating its digital maps to provide current information to all town officials and land use commission members.

 

Rid-Litter Day

Annually on the Saturday in April nearest Earth Day, the Commission sponsors a public roadside cleanup program with rewards for all participants.

 

Land Use Application Review

The Commission regularly takes part in site walks and reviews of wetland applications and subdivision plans which involve important or priority natural resources.

 

Education

The Commission sponsors workshops relating to land use issues, publishes articles in the Columbia Crossroads and in brochures that acquaint residents with various natural and historic resource issues, and lead field trips focusing on natural resources.

Historic and Scenic Rt. 87 - A brochure featuring the history of Rt. 87 and a driving tour detailing many historic sites and buildings along the road is now available at the library for $ 2. All proceeds will benefit the town's Open Space Fund.
