Hours of Operation
The Columbia Transfer Station is open Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The hours are set by the Board of Selectmen and may be changed at any time.
USE OF THE TRANSFER STATION
Only solid waste generated at residences located within the town of Columbia may be brought to the transfer station. No solid waste may be deposited at the transfer station by commercial or business entities. All solid waste must be delivered to the transfer station by the occupants or noncommercial owners of such residences.
Permit Stickers
Anyone utilizing the transfer station must have a permit sticker. The stickers are valid for the calendar year. The cost of an annual sticker is twenty ($20.00) dollars, ten ($10.00) for individuals 62 years or older. The annual fee includes a maximum of two stickers per household. Permit stickers are issued at the Town Clerk’s Office. Permit stickers must be permanently affixed to the vehicle’s windshield.
Bulky Waste
The following fees apply in addition to the cost of a permit sticker.
General Debris $20.00/cy Construction debris, carpeting, landscape debris and odd lots (i.e.) picnic tables, wooden spools, misc. household items, etc.
(For construction debris, a building permit must be available to Transfer Station Manager.)
Note: Demolition debris of a complete structure i.e. house/barn/garage/cottage will not be accepted at this facility
Appliances Requiring removal of CFC’s $7.00 All other appliances no charge
Furnishings Sofas and love seats $10.00 Stuffed chairs, automotive seats, mattresses, box springs, carpets (greater than 8’ x 6’ bound) $5.00 Wood Furniture no charge

These fees are subject to change by the Board of Selectmen.
General Regulations
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE: Hazardous waste is not accepted at Columbia Transfer Station. The MidNEROC hazardous waste facility in Willington accepts waste from Columbia residents. The facility is open the first and third Saturdays of the month from mid-April through November. Brochures are available from the attendant.
SAFETY: Please drive carefully and observe the 10 MPH speed limit. If you spill, break or drop something, please clean it up or request assistance if necessary.
NO BARE FEET
CHILDREN & PETS: Children under 12 years old and pets must remain inside vehicles.
SCAVENGING: Scavenging is prohibited.
MOTORIZED VEHICLES: No large motorized vehicles accepted, including riding mowers, cars, etc.
COLLECTION BOXES: Boxes are currently available for collection of books, used clothing, and returnable bottles and cans.
SOLICITING: Soliciting at the Transfer Station is prohibited.
