The Columbia Animal Control Departments consist of an Animal Control Officer and a municipal pound serving the Town of Columbia. The primary goals are to enforce animal related laws, reunite lost dogs with their owners and find loving homes for dogs not claimed by their owners.

WILDLIFE CONFLICT ISSUES: Animal control does not handle wildlife conflict issues. Please contact the CTDEEP Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator. If you are experiencing wildlife-caused problems and are unable or unwilling to resolve the situation yourself, you will most likely be referred to a Nuisance Wildlife Control Operators (NWCOs). The DEEP, through regulation and policy, determines which animals the NWCOs can handle and which methods they can employ. The Town of Columbia does not handle cats, and therefore does not take in stray or unwanted cats. Below are a few websites and phone numbers for shelters that may be helpful to when dealing with cats that are in need of a home. Please note these shelters are often full so you may be placed on a wait list. Also, these websites are a great tool if you are looking to adopt a cat or dog.
