Military Personnel

VETERANS who served for more than ninety days and have been discharged and/or disabled must have recorded their honorable discharge with the Town Clerk by October 1st in order to receive an exemption against the following years tax bill.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE PERSONS must fill out an application with the Assessor's Office in order to receive 2020 Motor Vehicle benefits. In order to receive an exemption for the 2020 GL an application MUST be filed by December 31, 2022. CT residents may apply for a real estate exemption as well as the motor vehicle exemption.  A copy of the active duty service person's ID  is needed for the motor vehicle exemption and a service status letter filed with the Town Clerk annually for the real estate exemption. A family member may file for the exemption if the service person is currently deployed.

VETERAN’S ADDITIONAL EXEMPTION: Increased exemptions are available for those who meet the necessary income requirements and file with the Assessor’s Office by May 15th. Biennial filling is required and proof of income must be furnished at the time of application.

 

GOLD STAR PARENTS AND SPOUSES

Exemption for parent or spouse whose son or spouse was killed in action. Must be file with required proofs no later than October 1st. Cannot exceed maximum income levels of $41,000 if married and $39,000 if single. 

MOTOR VEHICLE EQUIPPED FOR DISABLED VETERAN

Must submit proof of adaptation and application no later than October 1st. Exemption exempts one vehicle specially equipped for disabled veteran. 

INCREASE OF DISABLED VETERANS EXEMPTION FOR 100% DISABALED

Increases exemption for fully disabled veterans to three times the prior required exemption. Cannot exceed maximum income levels of $24,000 for married and $21,000 for single applicant.
